A Pictorial History 1681-2002

This is the second time in 300 years of Pennsylvania existence that a history
book of Penn Township, Chester County, has been written. The first book was
written in 1982 by two women. The title was Penn Township 1817 to 1982. Their
book was the stimulus for me to write a photographic history of Penn Township.
Most of the information in their book has been incorporated in my book.
The history of Penn Township begins with a grant of land from King Charles II to
William Penn in 1681, but some general information concerning the land before
Penn's time is relevant. The first European settlers in the immediate area were
Dutch.
The township's earliest inhabitants were known collectively as the Lenni-Lenape
Indians, but were mistakenly called Delaware by inhabitants and settlers. To
