A Pictorial History 1681-2002
By James J. Boyd

This is the second time in 300 years of Pennsylvania existence that a history book of Penn Township, Chester County, has been written. The first book was written in 1982 by two women. The title was Penn Township 1817 to 1982. Their book was the stimulus for me to write a photographic history of Penn Township. Most of the information in their book has been incorporated in my book.

The history of Penn Township begins with a grant of land from King Charles II to William Penn in 1681, but some general information concerning the land before Penn's time is relevant. The first European settlers in the immediate area were Dutch.

The township's earliest inhabitants were known collectively as the Lenni-Lenape Indians, but were mistakenly called Delaware by inhabitants and settlers. To find out more purchase this book!
